Independence - Ch 11

A week after making Jon’s ex manager pay for his mistakes, Kylee sat happily in her office smiling at the confirmation that bank forwarded to her attention about the money being deposited. Jon had won. Even though he had to fire a long time associate of his, he took control and got his money back.

“Kylee, Jon's here to see you.” Kelly buzzed in.

“Oh send him in Kelly.”

Jon walked in to her office, “Hey Kylee, how are you doing today?”

“I’m doing great Jon, how do you feel now that you’ve succeeded?” She smiled.

“Pretty damn good actually, I’m here to thank you; you handled that low life former manager of mine with class and dignity. I appreciate your thoroughness and commitment.” The professionalism was going to need work but he's trying.

“You’re welcome Jon, I try to always do the best for my clients after all you’re trusting me.”

“I’m also paying you, so that’s what I’d like to do as well, settle the bill.”

“Sure” Picking up a paper from her desk she handed it to Jon.

“$6700.00 “Jon confirmed with a glance. When she nodded he quickly wrote a check for her. Handing it over, he smiled. “So does that mean you’re still my lawyer?”

“As of now, no I’m not.”

“Good, so can we talk like two normal adults?”

“We could Jon if either of us were normal. I’m sorry I have another client appointment in about 20 minutes, but I’m glad you came by.” Standing up she walked over to her bookshelf and grabbed a wrapped package moving back to Jon she handed it to him.

“You got me a gift?”

“Yes, consider it a gift of guidance. I own my own business and that’s pretty much what you have now, this helped me tremendously when I first starting out.”

Jon opened the package and looked at the title of the book enclosed, The Manager's Handbook: Everything You Need to Know about How Business and Management Work by Robert Heller.

“Open the book Jon.” Kylee smiled sweetly.

He opened it up to the first page, seeing a handwritten note from her.

“Jon, Henry Ford once said, “If you think you can, you can. And if you think you can't, you're right.” I believe in you, this book will help to guide you, if you need me you’ve got my number.~ Kylee”

Jon reread the message one more time, he closed it and looked at her softly, "Thank you for the gift." Cocking his head to the side he saw something else that he hadn't seen before, the woman, not just the lawyer.

“Will you go out with me?” Jon asked.

“Yes Jon, I will.” Never in a million years did she believe, she’d have hope for something other than work in her life. Maybe she finally had a hope her future.
